I am constantly on the look out for new props. I found this stool in the discount bin at Old Time Pottery. It had been $25 and was marked $3.33. I figured for that price, I couldn't pass it up.
The only thing wrong with it, as you can see, was the top covering. Everything else, including the padding was fine.
I had been looking for quite some time for just the right fabric. I found this cute corduroy for $3.00 per yard at Walmart. I only needed a piece about 19 inches x 19 inches.
I started by removing all the tacks around the top. I saved all the tacks as well as the strip that went around the top of the stool. I was able to reuse both which saved me even more money.
Once all the tacks were out, I removed the top and rolled back the leather that goes around the stool.
I cut my new fabric to fit. I used a staple gun to pull the fabric tight and attach it to the stool. I then rolled the leather back up into place to cover the edge of the new fabric and started reattaching the leather band with the tacks. This was really simple since the holes were already in the leather strip. No measuring or spacing!
I think it turned out great. Ready for a newborn or even a toddler. And the best part is, it only cost me $6.33.

That fabric choice is so colorful and fun! And you are far handier than I to do that makeover...what an incredible find and savings! Eager to see your new prop put to use.
What a great project! I'm definitely not clever or crafty enough to pull it off, but I love seeing how you can bring something back to life!
